Cinc setmanes al Japó
In roughly twenty-five rolls of film, I have tried to distil what travelling through Japan meant to me. Punk was merely the excuse. The real intention was to observe, understand, and photograph a society whose contradictions coexist with remarkable harmony—contradictions that somehow sustain the everyday lives of millions of people.
This work owes a great deal to the photographers who first shaped my understanding of Japan through their books long before I ever set foot there. The intimate intensity of Masahisa Fukase, the quiet ambiguity of Issei Suda, and the work of many others offered not only visual references but ways of looking. Rather than trying to imitate their images, I carried their sensibilities with me, allowing them to influence how I approached everyday moments, people, and places.
Making sense of what I encountered has not been straightforward. Photography became my way of slowing down, ordering impressions, and turning experience into something I could revisit and question. Sequenced together, these images are less a definitive portrait of Japan than a personal attempt to understand a place that constantly resists simple explanations.
